The Obuya Cricket Academy was founded in 2005, with the aim of nurturing and producing world class cricketers through training and mentorship.
Following Kenya’s brilliant exploits in the 2003 Cricket World Cup where the Obuya brothers Kennedy, David and Collins showcased their talents, the brothers felt it was right to give back to the community through their passion and introduced the sport to under privileged kids from different slums in Nairobi.
Based in Nairobi, the academy has been a beaming hope for many kids aspiring to play cricket competitively. Recently, three youngsters from the academy lead the Kenya under-19 team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in New Zealand. This has been the highlight with many seeking to follow their footsteps.
So far over 500 kids, have gained cricket experience through the Obuya academy. More than 15 kids have also earned a scholarship where their education has been catered for.To date the academy has grown in leaps and it currently has a club that was promoted to play in the Nairobi Provincial Cricket League super division this year.
The training lessons offered cover a broad spectrum of cricket skills.
These include; fundamental skills, batting, bowling, fielding, and wicketkeeping. Alongside this, we integrate advanced methodologies such as video analysis, strengthening and conditioning, goal setting, and assessment. Additionally, our players are furnished with match awareness skills and game plans.
Several schools have benefited from our coaching, and so far, the performance narratives from the trainees have been encouraging.
Vision
Our vision is to create a series of top-quality youth cricket tournaments in Kenya.
Mission
We will strive to develop cricket in Kenya and to use cricket participation to develop society.
"I appreciate the initiative to introduce a sports like Cricket, which not only promotes physical activity but also instills in children the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and strategic thinking. The program's combination of practical sessions and theory-based learning seems to be engaging the children well. They have shown enthusiasm in learning about the sport's rules and strategies, as well as actively participating in the hands on training sessions."
